For more than 30 years, artist Blake Milteer has found enduring subjects in the forests and woods around Gairloch. Returning again and again to the Coille na Glas Leitire in Beinn Eighe NNR, Coille Dorch in Badachro, Coille Dubh near Shieldaig Lodge, and Am Baile Mòr (Flowerdale Glen), Milteer has created a new series of intricate drawings reflecting the complex beauty of these unique environments. The artist says that ‘drawing is a challenging and tactile way of rendering characteristic aspects of the landscape while also representing my experiences in these distinctive places.’

Blake Milteer is originally from the USA and lives in Edinburgh. He studied fine art at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Texas, holds a BFA in fine art from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and an MA in art history/ museum studies from the University of Denver.

In recent years, Milteer has re-prioritised making art after more than two decades of curatorial work in organisations such as the National Galleries of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and Denver Art Museum. Milteer’s art is represented by Inchgowan Fine Art in Gairloch.
